      Learning Objectives

      1. Identify signs of maladaptive perfectionism that may be masked by achievement, competence, or high functioning.

      2. Examine ethical risks that may emerge in treatment, including therapist collusion, countertransference, missed suicidality, and reinforcement of self-sacrificing or over-functioning behaviors.

      3. Conceptualize perfectionism through an ACT-informed lens, including experiential avoidance, shame, cognitive fusion, and conditional self-worth.

      4. Utilize practical interventions that help clients build flexibility, tolerate emotional discomfort, and reconnect with values outside of achievement and productivity.
